Enjoy this review of the HeliBars Horizon LST Handlebars for the GL1800/F6B.
I got my Helibars for my 2010 Gold Wing, at Daytona Bike week, 2014. they are great! I was able to demo a bike to see how they felt before buying, thank you! You want to be able to make subtle changes to make your ride more comfortable. Steering feel is more is more stable, Just being able to adjust your handle bars to fit you is should be standard. We do come in different sizes and adjustments are needed sometimes.
I installed my Helibars on my 2010 GL1800. I think they are a very well manufactured product.
However, I also found that the indexing caps with indexing marks were not installed initially to be in sync. There are two pair of these caps. Each pair was at least two index marks off from one another. When I went to do my adjustments, and started lining up the index marks on the side caps and the top caps, my two handgrips were so far off from being symetrically in sync from one another, that the handlebars actually looked, and were, lopsided to one another.
Being the machinist that I am, I got out all my machinist rules, straight edges, degree setting tools, and degree graduated level. I began the procedures necessary to bring both sides into perfect adjustment so as both handlebars were set exactly at the same angles in both vertical and horizontal axis. I loosened the cap screws holding the caps in place and adjusted each pair to the same index mark. I also did what I think Harry needs to do also, and that is that once I had all the caps exactly in sync (in pairs), I drilled the caps and the pivot joint and installed a stainless steel 1/16″ spring roll pin 1/4″ long.
That way, in the future if I need to loosen the caps for any reason, they will go back in exactly the same in sync position. And I can also do any handlebar repositioning and adjustments with the knowledge that I can rely on my index marks being on the money.
